2024 Elections Postponed Or Canceled

North Korean Election Delays Raise Questions

2024 Elections Postponed or Canceled

The latest election in North Korea was held on 10 March 2019. Parliamentary elections were expected to be held in North Korea in March or April 2024, but it is considered likely that they were delayed or canceled due to a lack of communication from the government. Kim Jong-un did not stand in the 2019 elections for the Supreme People's Assembly, the country's rubber-stamp parliament, a first for a North Korean ruler. He was also reported by state media to have cast his vote in the local elections on Sunday, a national holiday in North Korea to allow people to vote.

Dissenting Votes Acknowledged

In a rare move, North Korea acknowledged on Tuesday that there were dissenting votes in the recent elections. However, analysts have dismissed this as an attempt to portray an image of a more democratic society.
